Golf
The County Hotel, Dalkeith in Midlothian is ideally situated to take advantage of these activities. Golfing in particular is very popular in Midlothian. Located in Dalkeith, the County Hotel’s location is less than 20 minutes by car to 25 different Golf Courses including Musselburgh Links, Haddington, Muirfield and Gullane. Skiing
If you’d like to try some dry slope skiing, Hillend, Midlothian’s Snow Centre is the longest artificial slope in Britain and is only 10 minutes by car from the Hotel. Hillend is open all year round and pre-booking is not usually necessary.

For children, Midlothian offers a multitude of exciting activities to keep them entertained. Only 1 mile from the County Hotel, sits Butterfly and Insect World, here you can let them experience a tropical rainstorm, feed the fish, discover hundreds of Butterfly Species at first hand and investigate the wide range of Insects on display which range from snakes to tarantula spiders.
Walking
If it’s more of an outdoors experience you would like, take a stroll down to Dalkeith County Park, a mere 5 minutes walk from the County Hotel. Here, you and your children can enjoy the adventure park playground, take a guided walk & or enjoy a Talk on the natural history, beauty & wildlife of Dalkeith County Park.

Culture
If it’s Scottish Culture and History that interests you, Dalkeith is only 10 minutes away from the beautiful 15th century Rosslyn Chapel, known today for its part in the plot of the Da Vinci Code novel, but also famed for its architecture and history dating back to the days of the Crusades. For lovers of Mining Heritage, a must see attraction is the Scottish Mining Museum which has some of the finest surviving examples of a Victorian colliery in Europe.
Castles
Finally, a trip to Scotland cannot be complete without sampling some Scottish castles. Our nearest, Crichton Castle stands out in terms of its beauty and historical relevance, although ask at our Reception and you can be pointed in the direction of several more equally stunning examples to visit.
